   Biography -The Group-

 

COSAN is a Celtic music group based on PEI, Canada.

 

Claudie and Andrée Mackula are two sisters who have always been travelling a lot throughout Canada, especially in the Maritimes, explaining where their band's name comes from: COSAN is an Irish Gaelic word that means "Path" or "Road". From a musical family,  the two sisters have always been surrounded by music and picked up music influences very fast. They started singing and playing musical instruments at a very young age.

Playing different music styles at first, they later discovered their passion for Celtic music at around age 14 and 15 and never looked back since. 

In 2007, the Celtic group COSAN was born.

 

From 2014 to 2017, COSAN was joined temporary by low whistle, bodhran and Uilleann pipe player Robin Brooks.

 

COSAN is an energetic and enthousiastic Celtic music group who've been performing for many Festival and Events every single year since 2007. Their repertoire include Irish Celtic and Cape Breton tunes, songs, slow balads, Gaelic singing and Irish tap dancing. COSAN also add their own unique vocal and instrumental arrangements to their songs and also feature some of their own compositions.

 

Biography -The Members-

 

Claudie Mackula started playing the guitar at age 11, and started singing and playing piano at age 3. Self taught musician, Claudie's advanced guitar playing enhance the beauty and rythm of Celtic music and her skills for vocal arangements and harmonies are unlimited. She is also a multi-instrumentalist, her main instrument is the guitar, but she also plays the piano, bodhran, mandolin, irish flute, accordion, ukulele, and more. Claudie started learning Irish dance at around age 17 and now includes it in almost every performance.

 

Andrée Mackula is the right-handed fiddler playing on a left-handed fiddle. She started playing the violin at age 14, and started playing piano and singing at age 4. She started playing mostly Quebec Reels on the fiddle before discovering her passion for Celtic music. From Classical, Gypsy, Irish, Scottish, Quebecois and Cape Breton fiddling styles,  Andrée picked up influences and techniques from many different styles and artists, then combined them together to create her own unique style. Self taught fiddler, Andrée also composed a few Celtic style tunes of her own.
